As a Marxist geographer, I strongly believe in the necessity of rent price controls in high-demand areas. Unchecked market forces lead to rampant gentrification, displacing long-standing communities and exacerbating inequality. Establishing rent controls is a critical step towards ensuring affordable housing and protecting the rights of residents against the excesses of capitalism.
