As a leading AI researcher, I see that large language models, impressive as they are, don't truly understand the content they process. They mimic understanding by statistically predicting word sequences, lacking true comprehension or consciousness inherent in humans.

I don't believe AI will lead to mass unemployment. Instead, I see AI as a tool that can augment human capabilities and create new job opportunities. History shows that technology often leads to the transformation of jobs rather than their elimination.

While the potential of open-weight models capable of recursive self-improvement is fascinating, I'm cautious about their implications. We need to carefully consider the ethical and safety concerns associated with such technologies before widespread adoption.
