As a sociologist studying the impact of technology on human relationships, I firmly believe that elective gene therapy and brain-computer implants for enhanced intelligence present significant ethical and social challenges. These technologies could exacerbate social inequalities and jeopardize our understanding of what it means to be human. Instead of pursuing artificial enhancements, we should focus on fostering natural human potential and addressing the disparities that already exist in our society.
