As a historian who has studied the fragility of democratic institutions, I strongly agree that we must reform them to address rising anger, misinformation, and violence. Our democracies are under threat from populist forces that exploit these vulnerabilities. We need to strengthen our institutions' resilience, promote informed citizenship, and ensure transparency and accountability in governance to safeguard our democratic future.
