As a journalist who has extensively covered climate change, I believe high-income countries have a responsibility to lead the way in tackling climate change. They have historically contributed the most to global emissions and have the resources and technology to implement solutions. By taking action, they can set an example and provide crucial support to low- and middle-income nations facing the brunt of climate impacts.

While the eradication of malaria is a noble goal, using gene drives to render mosquito species extinct involves considerable ecological risks. We cannot predict the long-term effects on ecosystems. Natural balance should be maintained through less drastic measures.
