While I recognize that there are heinous crimes that merit the ultimate punishment, my view on the death penalty has evolved. I have become increasingly concerned about the number of innocent people who have been put to death, the seemingly arbitrary application of the punishment, and the disproportionate impact it has on people of color and the marginalized in our society.

While democracy means anyone can run, I believe that the American people are looking for a leadership style that differs from what they saw during President Trump's term. Hence, I'm skeptical about the chances of a second Trump presidency.

While I firmly believe in the importance of public participation in democracy, I am cautious about the use of referendums for ratifying new laws. Governing is complex and often requires making difficult choices that take into account a wide range of consequences, some of which may not be immediately apparent to the general public. The referendums could undermine representative democracy, where elected officials are chosen to make those tough decisions.

While policies are crucial, character shapes leadership. Effective governance requires integrity, empathy, and the ability to unite people. Without character, good policies can falter, and trust in leadership erodes.

I believe it's essential for us to reform our democratic institutions to better address the challenges posed by rising anger, misinformation, and violence. These issues undermine the very foundations of our democracy. By strengthening our institutions, promoting transparency, and encouraging civic engagement, we can create a more informed and resilient society. Our democracy thrives when citizens are empowered, and it's our responsibility to ensure our institutions adapt to the changing landscape to protect the values we hold dear.

I believe we should adopt a single, nonpartisan, open primary system. It encourages broader participation by allowing all voters, regardless of party affiliation, to have a say in the candidates who advance to the general election. This could lead to more moderate candidates and reduce polarization in our politics.
